Singer/songwriter Teena Marie Has Died

Singer/songwriter Teena Marie has died. She was 54. Born Mary Christine Brockert in California in March, 1956, the Grammy Award-nominated star found fame as a protegee of late funk legend Rick James.

As Tina Marie Brockert, she landed a role on TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies" as a child, but her career really took off in the mid-1970s when she signed to Motown Records. As a label artist, she came to the attention of James, who produced her debut album "Wild and Peaceful". The album featured Teena Marie's first big hit, "I'm Just a Sucker for Your Love".

By her third album, 1980's "Irons in the Fire", Teena Marie was writing and producing all her own tunes. The album featured her first top 40 hit, "Need Your Lovin' ". She followed that success by performing "Fire & Desire" with her mentor James on his cult album "Street Sounds". Her solo Motown hits included "Square Biz" and "It Must be Magic".

She also made music industry history in the early 1980s when she took her record label executives at Motown to court over a contract issue - the battle resulted in new laws that made it illegal for a record company to keep an artist under contract without releasing new material. She subsequently left Motown and signed to Epic Records, where she recorded the hits "Fix It", "Shadow Boxing", "Lovergirl" and "Out on a Limb".

The record label and Teena Marie parted company in 1990 and the singer/songwriter spend over a decade behind the scenes and out of the spotlight, devoting herself to her daughter Alia Rose. She returned to the limelight in 2004 after signing to rap label Cash Money Records' Classics spin-off label and released her comeback album, "La Dona".

She ended the decade by releasing the acclaimed Congo Square on Stax/Concord Records in 2009. The album featured the song "Can't Last a Day", a duet with Faith Evans.

A number of the Bani shots had been intended as the record's artwork, but other pictures were chosen instead. The photographs were sold off in 90 lots on Monday, December 13 and the collection raised more than $265,000.

The top-selling item was a picture of the singer in a Pharaoh-style pose - bare-chested and wearing a golden cape - which fetched a massive $34,880.

Colleen Jackson, executive director of the West End Intergenerational Residence, tells People magazine, "Without her, the residence definitely would not be built."

The center will be supported by Lauper's True Colors Fund.

Kind-hearted Oprah Winfrey tops the list of the most charitable celebrities. The media mogul is estimated to have donated more than $41 million through her initiative, Oprah Winfrey Foundation, which helps those in need for education access and programs for women and children.

This is not the first time Oprah leads the most generous celebrities list compiled by The Giving Back Fund. In fact, it's her third on the top spot. "There are many generous celebrities, but when you can top a list of celebrity philanthropists three out of four years, as Oprah has, that is saying something," Marc Pollick, president of The Giving Back Fund, said.

Coming at the second place is novelist Nora Roberts. She gave away around $4.45 million to her organization supporting literacy, children's programs and other humanitarian efforts. Meryl Streep and her hubby Donald J. Gummer follow at the third with a total of $4 million in donation to the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts.

"Combined these celebrities donated nearly $80 million of their personal wealth to charities. We hope that in recognizing the extraordinary generosity of these celebrities, we will encourage and promote greater and more authentic giving among those blessed with both wealth and fame," Marc added.

The national philanthropic group relies on media reports and tax forms to collect their data. The people from the organization also speak to publicists, agents and others close to the celebrity. But pledges or promises to donate or donations to public charities, which are not publicly disclosed, are not included.

John Lennon's last ever interview was broadcast online on Wednesday, December 8 to mark the 30th anniversary of his death. The Beatles legend gave an in-depth chat to journalists from RKO radio in San Francisco, California at his New York apartment on the afternoon of December 8, 1980.

Just hours after the radio crew left his home, Lennon was gunned down outside by crazed fan Mark Chapman - giving an added poignancy to the interview. In the chat, the iconic star discussed his life in the Big Apple and his plans for the future, ending the interview by telling programmer Dave Sholin, "I consider that my work won't be finished until I'm dead and buried, and I hope that's a long, long time."

The three-hour long interview was broadcast throughout the day on ReelRadio.com.

Lennon also gave an interview to journalists from Rolling Stone magazine on December 5, 1980, in which he slammed media commentators for their "worship" of tragic stars such as actor James Dean and Sex Pistols rocker Sid Vicious.

In an eerily prophetic statement, he said, "These critics with the illusions they've created about artists - it's like idol worship. They only like people when they're on their way up... I cannot be on the way up again. What they want is dead heroes, like Sid Vicious and James Dean. I'm not interesting in being a dead f**king hero... So forget 'em, forget 'em."

The interview, released to the Associated Press, will be published by the magazine in full for the first time on Friday, December 10. An edited version was printed in the days following Lennon's death.

And she insists she will battle the rest of the injunction so she can tell the full story of their relationship. "I now want to tell the whole story. I think it is wrong that celebrities are able to use the law to cover up their actions. I loved Howard once but he let me down so badly."

Erin Barry has finally responded to the issue linking her to Eva Longoria and Tony Parker's split. Breaking her silence, the estranged wife of Tony's teammate Brent Barry took it to her website to shut down report that she is having an affair with the actress' husband. "I DID NOT HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH TONY PARKER, nor did I 'pursue' Tony Parker," she wrote.

Erin then offered explanation why such rumor could emerge, elaborating "Unfortunately, because our divorces are occurring at the same time, great speculation has been cast on our friendship." She added, "My friendship with Tony Parker had nothing to do with the end of my marriage (which is painful enough without this added drama), and to assume that we had an affair is naive, ridiculous, and completely misguided."

She went on declaring that her statement on the site will be the first and the last for her talking about the subject. "I only take the time to explain myself because apparently my silence, as a result of my indifference, has been construed as an admission of guilt," she claimed.

Erin was said as the woman causing Eva and Tony's separation after the "Desperate Housewives" beauty reportedly found her husband sexting with Erin. "Tony had Erin's personal information stored in an electronic program that only he could access. But one day he forgot to close the program and that's when Eva found it," a source told Radar Online.

While Eva and Tony have not addressed the alleged cheating scandal, the two have filed their own divorce papers. The 35-year-old actress filed for divorce from her husband of three years on November 17 in Los Angeles, followed by the athlete few days later in Texas. The estranged couple, however, was recently spotted having a friendly lunch together in Santa Monica.
